Notes
Vassilis KATTOS was born in Gerolakkos, in the Nicosia district of Cyprus, in 1947.
After completing primary school in his village, he attended the Technical School of Nicosia, from which he graduated in mechanical engineering. He later continued his training in Italy in the same field and worked as a mechanical engineering teacher.
Kattos began painting from a young age and gradually developed a personal artistic practice alongside his professional career. His work is closely connected with Cyprus, its villages, landscapes and everyday life. His paintings often depict rural scenes, old neighbourhoods, shepherds, traditional architecture and familiar views of the Cypriot countryside.
His painting is characterised by clarity of composition, warm colour and a direct attachment to place and memory. Through scenes of village life and landscape, Kattos preserves images of a traditional Cyprus, creating works that combine observation, nostalgia and a sincere affection for local identity.
In addition to painting, Vassilis Kattos has also worked in sculpture. Public art records in Cyprus include monuments and commemorative works associated with historical memory, national identity and public life.
His works have appeared in exhibitions, private collections and auctions in Cyprus. Vassilis Kattos remains recognised as a Cypriot artist whose work reflects the landscape, traditions and collective memory of the island.
