Notes

Takis MORAITIS, also known as Panagiotis “Takis” Moraitis, was born in Greece in 1944.

Connected by origin with Kefalonia and Milos, he settled in Piraeus at the end of the 1960s. From an early age he showed a strong interest in painting and continued his artistic training in Greece, later studying in Rome and Paris, where he deepened his knowledge of both classical and modern tendencies in painting.

Moraitis became known primarily as a painter of Greek landscapes, seascapes and island views. His work is closely associated with the light, colour and atmosphere of the Greek islands, especially the Ionian and Cycladic worlds. Fishing boats, harbours, coastal villages, sea rocks, doorways and sunlit architectural views appear frequently in his compositions.

His paintings are characterised by bright Mediterranean colour, lyrical atmosphere and a romantic sense of place. Through expressive brushwork and sensitive handling of light, Moraitis creates images that celebrate the beauty of Greece, combining observation with an idealised and poetic vision of the landscape.

He has presented his work in exhibitions in Greece and abroad and has received distinctions in group exhibitions, including awards in Panhellenic exhibitions of seascape painters. His works are held in private collections in Greece, Cyprus, Canada, the United States and Australia, as well as in public and institutional collections.

Takis Moraitis remains recognised as a Greek painter admired for his luminous depictions of the sea, island life and the enduring character of the Greek landscape.
