Notes
Louis YIANNAPIS was born in Cyprus in 1970.
He is a contemporary Cypriot artist based in Nicosia. Largely associated with outsider art, Yiannapis has developed a highly personal visual language marked by immediacy, expressive force and emotional intensity. His work reflects a direct and instinctive approach to painting, often moving outside conventional academic rules and traditional artistic categories.
Yiannapis’s paintings are characterised by vivid colour, bold forms, dynamic line and a strong sense of spontaneity. His compositions often convey powerful emotional and psychological states, combining humour, provocation, social observation and poetic imagination. Through his figures, symbols and expressive surfaces, he creates works that are at once playful, thought-provoking and deeply personal.
His art has often been described as controversial, yet also deeply human and emotionally charged. It reveals an interest in raw creativity, authenticity and the expressive freedom associated with outsider and neo-expressionist art. His paintings frequently invite the viewer into a world of intense feeling, irony and visual energy.
Louis Yiannapis has exhibited in Cyprus and his works have appeared in galleries, private collections and auctions. He continues to live and work in Nicosia and remains recognised as a contemporary Cypriot artist with a distinctive and highly expressive artistic voice.
