Notes

Rhea BAILEY was born in Nicosia in 1946.

She studied in England at Sir John Cass School of Art from 1964 to 1965 and later obtained a BA Honours in Art and Design from Liverpool College of Art, where she studied from 1966 to 1969.

Bailey is an important Cypriot artist whose work is associated with abstraction, conceptual painting and spiritual exploration. Since the early 1970s, she has developed a personal artistic language marked by colour, movement, rhythm and symbolic structure. Her paintings often explore inner experience, transformation, energy and the relationship between the visible and the invisible world.

Her work is characterised by expressive colour, layered forms and a strong sense of visual movement. Through abstraction, she creates compositions that suggest emotional states, cosmic space, memory and spiritual reflection. Rather than representing the external world directly, her paintings invite contemplation and seek to express the deeper forces behind human experience and artistic creation.

Since 1971, Rhea Bailey has presented numerous solo exhibitions in Cyprus, the United Kingdom, the United States, Greece and Spain, and has participated in many group exhibitions, art festivals, workshops, competitions and congresses internationally. Her works are held in public and private collections in Cyprus and abroad, including the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts.

Rhea Bailey lives and works in Nicosia and remains recognised as a significant contemporary Cypriot artist, admired for the expressive, spiritual and imaginative qualities of her abstract painting.
