NOTES
The artist starts by creating a basic sketch of the idea he has for the final work. He then takes an Ultraviolet (UV) photograph of the sketch and prints the photograph on a special Gesso paper. He then sets about creating the final work by painting over the Gesso paper at various stages alternating between painting and using other substances applied to the paint until he achieves the final result.
According to Alexandro Papakonstantinou, this specific work "Bird in my House" went through 8 stages to achieve the desired end result that we see.
Alexandros Papakonstantinou was born in 1952, in Neo Falero, at the outskirts of Athens. He spent his childhood years on the island of Oinousses, Chios, where he first got involved with painting even before school. He later studied Painting and History of Art, in Athens and Rome. He also studied under Diamandis Diamantopoulos.
Papakonstantinou boasts numerous solo and group exhibitions in his resume.
His works can be found at the Municipal Art Gallery of Athens, Pinakothiki Kykladon, Marika Kotopouli Museum, Pinakothiki Alekos Kontopoulos, the art collections of Commercial Bank of Greece, and Geniki Trapeza, as well as in many private art collections in Greece and abroad.
