Notes

Leon KALOGEROPOULOS was born in 1926 and died in the early 2000s.

He trained from an early age beside Nikos Kalogeropoulos, the well-known Greek marine painter, whose subject matter and artistic approach had a strong influence on his development. He later continued his artistic studies in France, where he broadened his technique and visual language.

Kalogeropoulos became known primarily as a marine painter, devoting much of his work to seascapes, sailing vessels, harbours and coastal views. His paintings reflect a close study of the sea and its changing atmosphere, with particular attention to light, movement and the relationship between sky and water.

His work is characterised by sensitive handling of colour, fluid brushwork and an atmospheric rendering of the maritime subject. Through his seascapes, Kalogeropoulos continued the Greek tradition of marine painting while developing a personal style marked by lyricism, clarity and technical refinement.

Leon Kalogeropoulos presented his work in solo and group exhibitions. His paintings are held in important collections, including maritime museums in Greece, as well as the National Gallery and the Vorres Museum.
