Notes

Giorgos LOLOSIDIS was born in Mytilene, Lesbos, in 1937 and died in 2015.

He studied painting in Utrecht, Netherlands, and Birmingham, England. He also lived for a number of years in Europe and the United States, experiences which contributed to the development of his artistic language and broadened his visual references.

At the beginning of his artistic career, Lolosidis worked within the idiom of abstract expressionism, often placing emphasis on large surfaces and dynamic painterly gesture. Later, his work moved towards a distinctive form of realism, enriched with lyrical and surreal elements. His subject matter included landscapes, still lifes and portraits, executed mainly in oil and watercolour.

Lolosidis’s paintings are characterised by sensitivity of colour, poetic atmosphere and a refined sense of composition. His work combines observation with imagination, creating images that move between the familiar and the dreamlike. Through his landscapes and still lifes, he developed a personal visual world marked by quiet intensity, balance and lyricism.

Giorgos Lolosidis remains recognised as a Greek painter whose work reflects both international artistic influences and a deeply personal approach to form, colour and atmosphere.
