Notes

Giannis KOUTRIKAS was born in Kalamata in 1954.

He lived in the United States for a number of years and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. He later returned to Greece and studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts from 1982 to 1987, under Dimitris Mytaras. After graduating, he received a scholarship from the Greek State Scholarships Foundation, I.K.Y., to continue his studies at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in France. He also studied for several years alongside Yannis Tsarouchis, whose influence contributed to the formation of his artistic outlook.

Koutrikas is a Greek painter whose work is centred on landscape, the human figure and symbolic compositions. His painting is characterised by expressive colour, strong form and a sense of theatrical atmosphere. His subjects often include coastal scenes, ships, figures, still lifes and compositions with allegorical or religious references.

His artistic language combines figurative representation with an expressionistic mood. Through vivid colour, dynamic brushwork and carefully constructed compositions, he creates images that move between observation and imagination. His work often conveys a sense of monumentality, emotional intensity and poetic narrative.

Giannis Koutrikas has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. His works are held in private collections and have appeared in galleries and auctions internationally. He is also a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece.

He remains recognised as a contemporary Greek painter whose work reflects a personal approach to figuration, colour and expressive composition.
