Notes

Apostolos DEDES was born in Plikati, Ioannina, Greece, in 1937 and died in 2022.

He spent his early childhood in Plikati, a mountain village near the Greek-Albanian border. Following his displacement, he lived for part of his youth in Sinaia, Romania, where he attended school and first discovered his passion for painting. The landscape of the region, with its castles, monastery and mountain scenery, contributed to the formation of his early artistic sensitivity.

Dedes became known as a Greek expressionist painter. His work is characterised by expressive colour, strong painterly gesture and a personal approach to composition. His paintings often reveal an interest in abstraction, atmosphere and emotional intensity, combining visual rhythm with a sense of inner movement.

Through his use of colour and form, Dedes developed a visual language marked by spontaneity, sensitivity and expressive force. His compositions often move between abstraction and evocation, suggesting landscapes, memories and psychological states rather than direct representation.

Works by Apostolos Dedes have appeared in galleries, private collections and auctions in Greece and abroad. He remains recognised as a Greek painter whose work reflects the expressive tendencies of late twentieth-century Greek art.
