Notes

Andros EFSTATHIOU was born in Larnaka tis Lapithou, in the Kyrenia district of Cyprus, in 1964.

He studied in New York at the Ridgewood Art Institute and the New York Studio School between 1989 and 1994. After completing his studies, he returned to Cyprus, where he continued to develop his artistic practice and became active in the contemporary Cypriot art scene.

Efstathiou is a Cypriot painter whose work is associated with expressive figuration, movement and the observation of everyday life. His paintings often depict figures, human situations and scenes drawn from contemporary experience, rendered with spontaneity, energy and a strong sense of visual rhythm.

His artistic language is characterised by dynamic composition, expressive colour and a direct painterly approach. Through simplified forms and lively surfaces, he creates works that convey movement, immediacy and emotional vitality. His painting reflects both his international artistic training and his engagement with Cypriot life and visual culture.

Andros Efstathiou has presented solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Cyprus and abroad. He represented Cyprus at the Alexandria Biennale and also participated in the Florence Biennale. In 2005, he was invited by Leeds University to present a seminar on his work and to teach.

He lives and works in Cyprus and remains recognised as a contemporary Cypriot painter whose work combines expressive figuration, movement and a personal response to everyday human experience.
