Jannis (Yiannis) Psychopedis (born 1945, Athens) is a leading Greek painter and printmaker associated with Critical Realism. He studied engraving at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1963–1968) on scholarship and continued with postgraduate studies in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (c. 1970/71–1976) with a DAAD/German state scholarship.
From the late 1960s onwards he exhibited extensively in Greece and abroad, and he was a founding member of key artist groups including the “Young Greek Realists”. He lived and worked for periods in Berlin (late 1970s–mid 1980s) and Brussels (late 1980s–early 1990s), and in 1994 was elected Professor at the Athens School of Fine Arts.
