Notes

Savu SAVARGIN was born in Bucharest, Romania, in 1890 and died in 1954.

He studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Bucharest and later continued his artistic training in France, where he studied with the sculptor Antonin Mercié. His education placed him within the academic sculptural tradition, while his work also reflects the expressive and symbolic tendencies of early twentieth-century European art.

Savargin became known primarily as a sculptor. His works often focus on the human figure, with particular attention to psychological expression, mood and inner emotion. Portraits and figurative compositions form an important part of his artistic production, revealing his interest in the mystery, suffering, melancholy and introspective character of the human presence.

His sculpture is characterised by careful modelling, refined surfaces and a strong sense of emotional atmosphere. Works such as *Norocul*, also known as *The Luck*, show his ability to combine allegorical subject matter with a sensitive treatment of form. Through bronze and other sculptural media, Savargin created works that balance academic discipline with symbolic and poetic expression.

Savu Savargin’s works have appeared in public auctions and private collections, particularly in the sculpture category. He remains recognised as a Romanian sculptor of the early twentieth century, admired for his figurative sensitivity and expressive treatment of the human form.
