Notes

A finely crafted 18-carat gold necklace with matching earrings, designed by renowned Cypriot jeweler Nicos Ioannou, the only goldsmith in Cyprus authorized to reproduce images of antiquities from the Nicosia Archaeological Museum.

The necklace is composed of alternating pomegranate and ribbed oval beads, with a central cylindrical element intricately decorated and inspired by Hellenistic Cypriot prototypes.

The set exemplifies the revival of ancient Cypriot goldsmithing traditions in the late 20th century, rendered here with exceptional craftsmanship and scholarly precision.

The pomegranate motif, frequently encountered in Hellenistic Cypriot jewelry, symbolized fertility, abundance, and regeneration. In ancient Greek and Near Eastern traditions, the fruit’s many seeds represented the continuity of life and renewal, while its association with Aphrodite and Persephone endowed it with connotations of both love and the eternal cycle of nature.
