Michalis Manousakis was born on the island of Crete in 1953.
In 1979 he enrolled at The School of Fine Art, Athens, where he studied painting under Demosthenis Kokkinides and Dimitris Mytaras.
The human figure is the main subject matter of Manousakis’ work; the human figure in relation to its surrounding space. With direct and indirect references to real or imaginary surroundings, he achieves the creation of a sensitive, dreamlike atmosphere.
His compositions are minimal, where the human figure is usually an outline. Human identity, human relations and memory are qualities that are all explored in Manousakis’ work.
His work can be found in: The National Gallery of Greece, The Municipal Gallery of Athens, The Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and many other public and private collections.
