Marios Garyfalakis was born in 1934 in Athens.
He studied sculpture at the School of Fine Arts with teachers among others, Michalis Tombros and Ioannis Pappas. He graduated in 1958.
In his youth he worked in Greece, while from 1963 to 1974 he worked in Cyprus. He then went to America with his family in 1975. His works had won awards in exhibitions in Greece, Cyprus, Europe and America, while in addition to sculpture he also painted.
Garyfalakis moved to Cyprus in 1963, at the invitation of Makarios whom he met upon Makarios’ return from exile in the Seychelles. Whilst in Cyprus he created many busts and monuments of EOKA heroes. He considered Cyprus as his second home and in fact he used to sign some of his paintings as "Marios Garyfalakis, Cypriot".
