Notes

George ILIOPOULOS was born in Athens in 1947.

At the age of seventeen, he entered the workshop of Panos Sarafianos, where he received his first training in drawing and colour. He later continued his studies at the Vakalo School in Athens, studying painting with Panagiotis Tetsis, art history with Eleni Vakalo and stage design with Giorgos Vakalo.

Iliopoulos is a Greek painter whose work is closely associated with landscape, open-air subjects and the atmospheric qualities of natural light. His painting reflects an interest in the impressionistic rendering of outdoor space, with emphasis on colour, luminosity and the changing mood of the landscape.

His works are characterised by sensitive chromatic handling, loose brushwork and a lyrical approach to place. Through landscapes, gardens, coastal views and urban or rural scenes, Iliopoulos creates compositions that combine observation with poetic atmosphere. His use of light and colour gives his paintings a sense of immediacy, warmth and visual rhythm.

George Iliopoulos has presented his work in exhibitions and his paintings have appeared in galleries, private collections and auctions in Greece and Cyprus. He remains recognised as a contemporary Greek painter admired for the atmospheric quality, refined colour and impressionistic sensitivity of his landscapes.
