An extremely rare map of Cyprus showing the outlines of the 9 classical kingdoms published in 1718 by renowned French cartographer Pierre Moulart-Sanson grandson of Nicolas and nephew of Guillaume Sanson. The map is based on the prototype of Paolo Forlani’s ‘Isola di Cipro’ map of 1570.
The full title as shown on the map is: CYPRUS Praestantia nulli cedens Insulae Singulae hujus Insulae Urbes suis antiquitus paruerunt Tyrannis, deinde Novem REGNORUM Sedes fuerunt, Regi Persarum Subditae Cleopatrae patruo Cypri rege inique agente Romani insulam occupaverunt ac in Praetoriam Provinciam Sub Orientis Dioecesi redegerunt. Viae militares Romanorum ex Tabula Peutingeri ana describuntur.
