Stelios Votsis

Stelios Votsis was born in Larnaca in 1929.

He studied painting at three Schools of Fine Art in London: at St. Martin’s School of Art, at Sir John Cass College of Art and at Royal Academy. In 1955 he graduated from the Slade School of Art of the University of London. Since then he lives and works in Nicosia.

He has shown his work in many one-man exhibition: in 1949 in Larnaca; in 1969 at a retrospective exhibition at Hilton Gallery in Nicosia; in 1971 at Argo Gallery in Nicosia; in 1978 at Zygos Gallery in Nicosia; in 1987 at Gloria Gallery in Nicosia, at Morphi Gallery in Limassol, at Kyklos Gallery in Paphos and at the Municipal Hall in Larnaca; in 1989 at the Famagusta Gate in Nicosia; in 1990 at Gloria Gallery in Nicosia; in 1993 at Rogmi Gallery in Limassol; in 1995 at Anadesis Gallery in Nicosia; and in 1996 at Zaharias Gallery in Limassol.

Stelios Votsis participated in several group exhibitions, of which the most important are: in 1955 at Young Contemporaries in London; in 1961 at Vayianos Gallery in Athens; in 1967 in Boston of U.S.A and at the 8th Panhellenic Exhibition in Athens; in 1968 at Venice Biennale, the 7th Alexandria Biennale and the 1st India Triennale; in 1969 at the 10th Sao Paulo Biennale of Brazil; in 1971 at the 2nd International Graphic Arts Biennale in Buenos Aiers and at the 2nd International Young Artists Exhibition in New York; in 1972, 1973 and 1975 at the International Graphic Art Exhibitions; in 1976 and 1977 at the International Art Exhibitions in Belgrade; in 1979 at the “Contemporary Cypriot Art” exhibition in Thessaloniki; in 1993 at the exhibitin “25 Cyprito Artists in Athens and at the exhibition “Jeux de Lumiẻre” in Paris; and in 1994 at the Art Athina 2 and Art Athina in Athens.

His work can be seen at the State Gallery of Contemporary Cypriot Art and in several public and private collections in Cyprus and abroad.
